Sales Tax On Buses

The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fartfell) said yesterday that a statement reported to have been made by him in “The Press’ yesterday was misleading. He denied having told the annual conference of the Public Passenger Transport Association on Wednesday that the Minister of Finance (Mr J. T. Watts) had promised to relax sales tax on buses. Mr Fardell said that he had told the conference that in a meeting with Mr C. M. Bowden he had been told that some measure of relief (from sales tax) would be afforded, and that he had remarked that it was to be hoped that Mr W T atts would follow suit.
