TOWN PLANNING APPEALS
Report On Recent Cases Recent reports showed that in almost all of the appeals to the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board the board was upholding the local authorities and implementing town planning principles, the town planning committee reported to the City Council. “As an illustration of the board’s attitude, a recent case concerned an application refused by a local authority for alterations and extensions to a building used as a carrier’s depot in a residential area,” the report stated. “The grounds for the appeal generally were that the depot had been there for many years, and the alterations and extensions were reasonably required and would improve the appearance of the building. “The board found that the operation of such a business in a residential area is not in conformity with town and country planning principles, and the lobal authority had acted properly in refusing the alterations and additions which might tend to perpetuate the present condition,” the report said.
