FATAL PLUNGE DOWN BANK

Two Men Killed In Fall (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. March 10. Two men plunged 30 feet to their death last night, when they fell from steps in Harrold street to Raroa road, Kelburn. They were: Michael Dudrik, aged about 40, a Jailor, of The Terrace, Wellington, and Jan Czubak, aged about 30, a tiler, of Mein street, Newton. There are no next-of-kin in New Zealand, but both men have relatives in Poland. The men were found by a friend soon after their fall. Mr Dudrik was apparently killed instantly and Mr Czubak died on the way to hospital. Both men had been attending a gathering of friends in a house in Harrold street. They left the house shortly after 9 p.m. and were found soon after. The steps leading from Harrold street are not lighted and there is no handrail. The men missed a turning on the path and plunged down the bank. CAR SNAPS OFF POLE TWO PERSONS HURT A late model hit and snapped off a telegraph pole at the Dromore corner, 10 miles north of Ashburton, on the Main South road, injuring two persons,, shortly after midday yesterday. Those injured were: Mrs A. E. Lewis, of South crescent, Christchurch, who was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital with a fractured leg, and Mr J. W. Earl, of Christchurch, who suffered injuries to his back.

A third person in the car, Mrs Savage, a daughter of Mrs Lewis, was uninjured. The injured were taken to hospital by ambulance. Their condition last evening was reported to be # satisfactory. The pole was snapped off at ground level. The car turned over, coming to rest upside down a short distance away. It was extensively damaged. Last Wednesday, one person was injured when a late model car hit another pole at the same intersection. WOMAN STRUCK BY CAR A woman was seriously injured on Saturday night when she was struck by a car at the corner of Jerrold street and Lincoln road. She is Mrs H. R. Anderson, of 262 Lincoln road, Christchurch Mrs Anderson was taken by a St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital and admitted. Late last night she was on the seriously ill list. . MOTOR-CYCLIST HURT Denis O’Grady, a bank clerk, of Clark street, Ashburton, was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital after the motor-cycle on which he was riding was in collision with a motor-truck at the intersection of Elms road and Harrison street at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The driver of the truck was Richard Yee, a shop assistant, of Ashburton. Mr O’Grady was admitted to the hospital suffering from lacerations and slight concussion. His condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory.
