SOCCER F.A. TROPHY MATCHES
CHANGES IN CHALLENGE SYSTEM OPPOSED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 8. The Auckland Football Association, holder of the English Football Association trophy, will oppose a proposal by the Hawke’s Bay Association to have the trophy competed for on a knock-out basis with all provinces competing, rather than the existing challenge system. Mr A. Kyle, chairman of the Auckland Association, said today that the challenge system in force for the last three years had proved satisfactory, giving centres holding th® trophy the n hance to build up their gates. “It is not as if all provinces do not get a challenge. When we hold the trophy we accept all challenges, and it has circulated the country quite well.” Mr Kyle raid that he would be attending the national meeting in Wellington later this month with two Auckland delegates and they would be instructed to oppose the Hawke’s Bay remit. “I feel sure it has not a chance of getting through.” he added.
