CANBERRA, March 8. A fresh easing of import restrictions can be expected probably within two months, political observers believe.

They were commenting on Australia’s favourable overseas trade surplus at the end of February, and the Prime Minister’s cautious statement that its implications on import restrictions and inflationary pressure would give the Government “plenty of food for thought” in the next few weeks. Figures released yesterday by the Commonwealth Statistician. Mr S. R. Caver, showed that Australia had an overseas trading surplus of £ 166.000.000 for the first eight months of the present financial year.
