Big New Airfield

MELBOURNE, March 8. The Royal Australian Air Force will soon begin work on a multimillion £ airstrip at Laverton air base, 13 miles from Melbourne. When completed the strip will be equal to the longest atomic bomber runway in the Southern Hemisphere, and will take aircraft with an all up weight of at least 180 tons. The strip, with over-runs, will be two miles and a half long, 200 ft wide, and more than 3ft deep.
