SUKARNO RELENTS

Cabinet Plan Postponed

(Rec. 10.30 p.m.) JAKARTA, March 7.

President Sukarno was prepared to postpone his attempt to bring Communists into his Cabinet, sources close to the Palace told Reuters tonight. They said that under pressure from religious parties, outer provinces, and the Army, the President had proposed a compromise. But he was still demanding that Communists should have a place in his National Council. Earlier today sources close to the former Vice-President, Dr. Mohammed Hatta, said that he was not prepared to compromise his stand that Communists should be kept out of the Government. Dr. Hatta has accepted an invitation to discuss the present situation extended by the President at the urging of the Army Chief of Staff, Major-General Abdul Haris Nasution, after the military coup in East Indonesia. Today, Lieutenant - Colonel Ventje Sumual, military commander of East Indonesia and leader of the military coup there, officially installed the Governor of the Celebes, Mr Andi Pangeran Petta Rani, as military governor of the South and South-east Celebes.
