HAMPSHIRE DOWNS TO THE FORE

Hampshire Downs continue to be the leading breed on Britain’s sheep export market, the Hampshire Down Sheep Breeders’ Association has announced. The association’s president said that 94 Hampshires were exported in the first 11 months of 1956; 57 to Kenya, three to Uruguay, one to Czechoslovakia, six to France, three to the Argentine, nine to other areas of South America, and 15 to South Africa. A total of 599 Hampshires were expor+ed through Britain’s Livestock Export Group between 1952 and 1955, while exports of their nearest competitors, the Suffolks, totalled only 193.
