VETERINARIANS’ VISIT
Routine Check On N.Z. Meat (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WELLINGTON, February 24. Two Swedish veterinarians arrived in Wellington today to begin a three-weeks’ routine tour of New Zealand. Dr. Torsten Blom, chief veterinarian to the Swedish Veterinary Board, and Dr. K. A. Tullberg. a Stockholm veterinarian, emphasised the routine nature of their visit which, they said, did not stem directly from Sweden’s detection of contaminated meat in imports from New Zealand. Dr. Blom described the contamination as slight and said it was found from time to time in all meat. Sweden was the only country he knew of which conducted bacteria tests on imported meat. As a check on what Sweden was buying, veterinarians were visiting all the producer countries. The visit to New Zealand was part of this programme.
