FOURTEEN THEFT CHARGES

ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL (New Zealana Press Association) BLENHEIM, February 21. Ernest Vaughan Williams, married, a 31-year-old, former Social Security Department cashier, was this morning committed for trial on each of 14 charges alleging theft from Social Security beneficiaries. Williams pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The total involved is £63 4s, in sums ranging from £2 17s 6d to £5. There was sufficient evidence, said Mr W. H. Carson, S.M., to commit Williams for trial on each of the charges. The accused was released on bail in his own recognisance of £l5O, with a surety of £l5O. Other charges, alleging theft and attempted theft, have "been adjourned until after the Supreme Court sitting.
