The February meeting of the Riccarton Garden Club was held at the home of Mrs C. Brander. Fendalton. Mrs C. G. Manhire presided and 4 welcomed Mr O. Anderson, who spoke on the history and cultivation of peonies. Competition results were: Decorative. class A, Mrs W. Whittington 1, Mrs T. Uren 2. Mrs J. L. Hay 3. Class B: Mrs G. Simpson 1, Mrs C. Peate 2. Mrs P. Fotheringham 3. Carnation: Mrs R. Sarjeant 1, Mrs T. Uren 2. Mrs W.-Whittington 3. Rose: Mrs H. Taylor 1. Mrs T. Uren 2, Mrs E. Tomlinson 3. Officers of the Somerfield Townswomen’s Guild arts and crafts circle were elected at the annual meeting as follows: leader, Mrs C. H. Roxborough; secretary, Mrs C. R. Bent: committee, Mesdames L. C. Hobbs. A. H. Hobbs. T. Bailey, R. C. Matthews. Results of competitions were:—Wool mats, Mrs G. Bailey I, Mrs McGarva 2. Mrs S. AY. Williamson 3. Plastic baskets: Miss Whittaker 1. Mrs Matthews 2, Miss Woods 3.

Mrs H. Griffiths presided at a recent meeting of the Riccarton branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, when plans were made for a garden party to be held at the home of Mrs Ewart Smith. Mrs Gray was appointed delegate to the Dominion convention, and remits for the convention were discussed. The Christchurch Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association held its annual garden party at the home of Miss I. F. Milnes. Banks avenue. The president (Mrs J. Hildyard) welcomed more than 90 guests, including representatives of kindred associations. A competition was won by Mrs Truscott.

Mrs Thomas’s Sunshine Circle were entertained at the Pensioners’ Memorial Hall. Worcester street, by the following artists— Clarrie Day (ventriloquist),- the Boocock sisters (vocal), Rosemary Hewstone, Johnny Tucker, and Wayne Saville (piano accordionists and drummers), the Vagabonds (harmonicas). Music for dancing was played by S. TrevorSmith and Mr Hobby was compere.
