STANDARDS COUNCIL

Work Of Women

In N.Z.

In New Zealand, as in other countries with national standards organisations, women have made a valuable contribution to the development and application ot the principles of standardisation, says the February issue of “New Zealand Standards Bulletin.”

In addition to the two women members of the Standards Council, Mrs H. J. Bamicoat, who represents the Dominion Federation of New Zealand Country Women’s Institutes and the Women’s Division of Federated; Farmers, and Mrs M. J. Forde,! who represents - the National Council of Women, there are representatives of other women’s or ganisations. There are women’s representatives of the School of Home Science at Otago University, the Health Department, and hospitals on several committees.

The positive contribution that these women representatives make towards the sound development of standardisation and the; influence they exert within the councils of the organisation is of the utmost value. The women of New Zealand have cause to be grateful to their representatives on the Standards Council and the various committees for the endeavours they make to ensure that the principle of standardisation is used in a way that will enable womenfolk to have at their disposal a reliable means of determining quality in relation to price and quantity of goods through practical descriptions of the goods they buy and use.
