CANTERBURY PLAYS AUSTRALIANS The Australian universities’ tennis team which is touring New Zealand with considerable success, will meet a Canterbury University College team in matches at Wilding Park today. The team has already played Otago and the New Zealand University team, and competed in the New Zealand championships at Auckland. The top man of the touring team is a 6ft 2in economics student at Sydney University. M. Callaghan. Together with the second man, L. Rae, Callaghan has put up good performances in his New Zealand games. The other two men with the team are K. Adams, of Melbourne. and C. Allen, of the New South Wales University of Technology.

Betty Bradfield, a 19-year-old science student at Queensland University, is the top woman. In 1958 she was awarded the National Fitness Sportswoman of the Year trophy, and she represented her State against the touring New Zealand team last year. Still a junior, she is ranked top woman in Queensland, and seventh for Australia.

Ann Emslie is from Western Australia. She began playing tennis in Essex, England, when she was 11, and emigrated to Australia five years ago. In 1956 she won the Western Australian hard courts doubles events, and was runner-up in the singles. The other two women members of the team are Joan Decker . (Queensland University), and* Janet . INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS i The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association has decided to postpone the senior men’s and senior women's I matches scheduled for next Saturday because of the New Zealand junior - championship finals.
