‘Mad Bomber’ Suspect Held

(Rec. 8 p.m.) WATERBURY (Connecticut), KT January 22. New York and Waterbury police today detained a 54-year-old former employee of the Consolidated Edison Company, whom they deenbed as “a very good suspect” in the mysterious case of Manhattan’s ‘‘mad bomber.” They said he had admitted ‘‘some of the bombings.” The suspect was identified as George Metesky, who, police said, lived in Waterbury at the home of his two sisters. A police spokesman described Metesky as “a very good suspect” and said ‘‘all signs indicate he is our man.”

He was referring to the person who, during the last 16 years, has deposited at least 32 homemade pipe bombs in public places in New York, injuring 16 persons, none fatally.
