DEMAND BY HUNGARY

“Return Of All Refugees”

The Hungarian .Government has called on the United Nations to repatriate all Hungarians who fled to Austria and other countries after the October 23 revolution. The request was made by Mr Peter Mod, Hungary’s permanent representative at the United Nations, in a letter to the Secre-tary-Genera] (Mr Hammarskjold). The letter was circulated as a General Assembly document. The Hungarian Government alleged in the letter that the refugees were being ill-treated and prevented from voluntarily returning home.

The letter expressed special concern for refugees under 18 and the children of parents who are still in Hungary.
