Drought In Spain
(From a Reuter Correspondent) MADRID. “Rain, rain come to Spam,” is the devout desire of Spaniards After a very wet spring, autumn has been completely dry. The blue skies day after day. and week after week, delight visiting tourists, as does the absence of any petrol rationing tn Spain. But Spaniards long for snow and rai-n to help fill the rapidlyemptying reservoirs which store the water for the hydro-eiectri< power stations. Not since 1948 has so much oi the winter gone without the amount of water stored beginning to increase. Apart from .the electric problem, next year’s wheat crop will be seriously affected if the drought continues.
