Bowling Matches At Chateau

The second annual series of bowling tournaments to be held at the Chateau Tongariro will open on Monday. The matches will be played on the highest green in the country—37ooft above sea level. Five tournaments will be held duYing January, February, and March. Last year the fixture was particularly popular, with 16 teams taking part in a single contest. This year 51 teams, each of two men and two women, will compete during the five separate weeks of tournaments. If the weather is unsuitable for outdoor play, indoor bowling tournaments will be held. Players competing in the first contest next week will include the presidents of four New Zealand bowling clubs —Mesdames A. J. Burge (East Coast Women’s Bowling Centre), who is also vice-pre-sident of the New Zealand Women’s Bowling Association, R. M. Hamilton (Rotorua Women’s Bowling Club). J. E. Webb (Arawa Women’s Bowling Club), and Mr I. Gerrard (Hawera Bowling Club).
