Major C. J. Ellen, U.S.A.F. To Be Lieutenant-Colonel
The commander of the 52nd I Uoop Carrier Squadron and 1 deputy-commander of the United ’ States Air Force task unit for the , American Antarctic expedition i (Major C. J. Ellen) has been promoted to lieutenant-colonel. Lieutenant-Colonel Ellen, who ■ has a distinguished war record, received his new insignia from : Colonel H. A. Crosswell, Air Force Task Unit Commander, at an informal ceremony at Weedons. ' A veteran of more than 50 missions from New Guinea between i 1943 and 1944, Lieutenant-Colonel Ellen served at Port Moresby fly- , ing B-25 medium bombers for the sth Air Force during the war. Included in his missions were day- ' light raids on Rabaul. After the war he was assigned , to the special air mission squad- ' ron at Bolling Field, Washington I where he served as pilot for the i Vice-President of the United States.
