Sick Sailor Put Ashore.— The 8256-ton American vessel Pioneer Cove called at Auckland yesterday morning to put ashore a sick member of the crew, Mr Denis Smith, aged 28. The vessel, which left Sydney last Saturday on her run to New York, was diverted to Auckland. The port doctor boarded the ship in the stream and Mr Smith was taken to hospital. The ship sailed shortly afterwards. — (P.A.) Drinking in Germany.—Consumption of beer and hard liquor had almost reached the prewar level.
