PINE GROVE WINS THE LOUISSON
(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 26. The consistent Pine Grove won the Louisson Memorial at the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting today from Detect and Pinnacle Ridge. At surprisingly good odds, Pine Grove was always well placed, and took over passing the false rail. He was not troubled and won decisively. Detect was a good second, with Pinnacle Ridge running on for third ahead of Maquana and Finito. Gay Jinx won the second leg, the Palmerston North Hack Cup, in a good finish with Golden Luca. The winner sprinted clear turning for home, and held off the fast finishing Golden Luca narrowly, but well. Movietone finished third, and Red Terror was a good fourth. The double paid £92 14s for Cl. The totalisator handled £109.716, as against £106,872 10s last >iar. The total for the two days is £218,413 10s, as compared with the first two days’ total of last year of £222,860. D. Grubb, rider of Purple Downs in the Tiritea High-weight Handicap, was charged under rule 282 with not riding his horse out to the end of the race. He was fined £5.
