FOUR LAMBS STOLEN New Potatoes Also Taken (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Dec. 26. Someone .solved his Christmas dinner problems cheaply (so far) but effectively and chose the menu of roast lamb and new potatoes from a most exclusive source. On Sunday night, four lambs disappeared from the experimental plots of the Grasslands Division of the Department oJ Scientific and Industrial Research near Palmerston North, and on Monday night several bags of potatoes were taken from a trial plot. The theft of the potatoes has almost ruined a special trial of a hybrid variety. The trial was‘ being conducted in conjunction with a potato breeding programme -organised by Mr M. Driver at the Crop Research Station at Lincoln, said the Director of the Grasslands Division (Dr. P. D. Sears) today,' and because of the theft the value of the trial had been considerably lowered.
