OBITUARY
MR A. DERBIE (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 26. After a Christmas day reunion in which his whole family was united under the one roof for the first time since 1933, Mr Alexander Derbie died suddenly in his home in Invercargill to-, day. I?e was 73. As managing director of the Southland. Frozen Meat and Export Company, Mr Derbie played a vital part in the development of Southland and in building up the supply of meat from New Zealand to Britain, particularly during the Second World War. As a young man. Mr Derbie represented Southland at both cricket and Rugby football. Mr" Derbie was a life membei of the Invercargill Bowling Club, a past-president of the Invercargill Amateur Athletic Centre, and a member of the committee ot the Invercargill Racing Club. He took an active interest in Freemasonry. He was Past-Pro-Grand Master of New Zealand, but did not hold office, for health reasons. The rank was conferred on him in recognition of his service to Freemasonry. He was also Provincial Grand Master for Southland for many years.
