CHURCHES’ MISSION IN ASIA
“A LITTLE BAFFLED” BY PROBLEMS (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 25. (Churches in the United States felt “a little baffled” about what should be done for South-east Asia, said the Rev. Dr. Ralph D. Hyslop, professor of ecumenical studies at the Union Theological Seminary. New York. Dr. Hyslop, a world figure in the ecumenical movement, is at Auckland for Christmas before, going to Palmerston North for the 1956 Ecumenical Youth Conference. “South-east Asia present an exciting challenge to the churches of New Zealand and Australia,” he said. “There are opportunities for the churches in these two countries to accept major responsibilities.” Dr. Hyslop said that - a new conception of missionary endeavour had arisen in the churches. It was up to Christians in this part of the world to act together as a family and to train leaders for the indigenous churches in South-east Asia.
