TEACHING POST IN INDONESIA
COMMISSIONING SERVICE HELD There was a very great hatred of the white man throughout Asia and one of their daily tasks would be inter-racial reconciliation, said the general secretary of the National Council of Churches (the Rev. A. A. Brash) in his charge to Mr and Mrs G. Brewster in St. Andrew's Church. Mr and Mrs Brewster will leave shortly to teach at the newly established Christian Teachers’ Training College in Salatiga. mid Java. The appointment is the first to have been made by the National Council of Churches and will be at first for three years. Both Mr and Mrs Brewster are graduates of Canterbury University College. Mr Brewster will teach in the economics department of the college and Mrs Brewster in the English department. Indonesia’s greatest need was qualified leaders, said Mr Brash. Mr and Mrs Brewster were charged not only with the task of training these teachers but with international liasion as well. The service, which was attended by a large number of persons, was conducted by the executive chairman of the National Council of Churches <the Rev. A. W. Grundy). The lessons were read by the Rev. H.- L. Fiebig. and the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. A. K. Warren) led players of intercession and pronounced the benediction.
