Duke’s Farewell Messages

(New Zealana Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 25. The Governor-General (Sir Willoughy Norrie) has received the following message from His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh: “As I leave the Chatham Islands after spending four very interesting and very happy days in New Zealand, I would like to thank you and all the many people who have had a hand in the arrangements. I particularly appreciated the warm and friendly welcome I received wherever I went. It was a great pleasure to be able to renew many acquaintances from three years ago. I wish you all a very pleasant Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year. Philip.”

In his message to the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) the Duke says:

“I am most grateful for your message of good wishes. I will most certainly take back to the Queen a good report of her New Zealand people and your assurance of their loyalty and affection.”

The Royal yacht Britannia is now in the southern Pacific on her way to British possessions south of South America.
