KIDNAPPED OFFICER
Briton Found In Port Said (Rec. 8.20 p.m.) PORT SAID. Doc. 22. Second-Lieutenant' Anthony Moorhouse. the British officer kidnapped in Port Said by Egyptians, is alive and well, it was officially stated today. The commander of the Allied forces in Port Said, Lieutenant-General Sir Hugh Stockwell, said that Lieutenant Moorhouse had been seen by a United Nations officer today. It was later reported that he was found in Port Said’s Arab quarter by United Nations troops. It is expected that he will be handed over to the United Nations and then flown home. The 21-year-old officer of the West Yorkshire Regiment, who comes from Leeds, was kidnapped at gunpoint 11 days ago, and widespread searches by British troops failed to find him. The black saloon car in which he was abducted was later found abandoned with blood stains on the back seat and a gag and cord. Lieutenant Moorhouse was 21 years old last Tuesday. General Stockwell said that there had been an Egyptian Army order for the release of Lieutenant Moorhouse, but his captors in Port Said had been debating whether to turn him over.
