PRIESTS CELEBRATE SILVER JUBILEE

REV. K. SCHOLLAR - Twenty-six years ago the Ven. W. T. williams, vicar of Avonside. and the Rev. Kenneth Schollar, R.N.Z.A.F., chaplain at Wigram. were ordained deacons together in the Christchurch Cathedral, and 12 months later were together raised to the priesthood. .On Friday, after celebrating their filver jubilee at their respective altars, the two priests joined forces for a dinner and family party. On Saturday morning. Mr Schollar •apS a Solemn Eucharist at St. Michael’s, the church in which he ”ad celebrated his first Eucharist on the same day 25 years earlier. Mr s G. Lamport, who had served on that occasion, did so again on Saturday; the sub-deacon was Canon H *, W. Knights, and the deacon the F. N. Taylor, who was himself celebrating the diamond jubilee of -his ordination as deacon.

Fifty-three years ago. Archdeacon Taylor was assistant curate in the Parish of Stratfield Mortimer—the Parish which gave to Christchurch its ®r?t Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Henry John Chitty Harper—and it was a son of that Bishop, the Very Rev. Walter Harper Dean of Christchurch, who Prevailed upon Frederick Norman Taylor to leave Stratfield Mortimer in 1"13 and come out to New Zealand to oe vicar of St. Luke’s. Christchurch.
