British Drinking Habits
Drinking habits in Britain continue to show a changing pattern. Although there was a decline in beer drinking three or four years ago, consumption has recently been increasing, and it is now estimated to be about 900.000.000 gallons a year, or roughly the same as in 1938. More spirits are being drunk compared with before the war—lo,4oo.ooo gallons yearly instead of 10.000.000 gallons. Wine drinxing at 13,000,000 gallons is 2,000,000 gallons lower than in 1938. but is increasing rapidly. Nearly double the quantity of soft drinks are being sold today—26o.ooo.ooo gallons, compared with 130,000.000 gallons before the war.—London, December 21.
