INCREASES IN PAY GRANTED HIGHEST RATE £2220 A YEAR (Neu. Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. December 20. Hie Court of Arbitration has given B award in the North Island airline slots' dispute. The Court was required & settle a number of clauses, includes those covering rates of pay. on rhich the Conciliation Council failed i agree. Co-pilots’ pay has been increased by counts varying from £55 to £125 a ear. The basic rate for the first year i now £855. and the highest rate proved is now £1625 for an eight-year i-pilot. in DC-6 aircraft. Captains’ pay has been raised by nounts varying from £9O to £lBO. he lowest rate is the first-year basic ite. now £1240, and the highest rate rovided is for a captain in control f DC-6 aircraft. £2220. The rates are subject to the general rier of the Court increasing rates of ar given in October. A new clause provides for the pay»nt of overtime. The accident cover which employers ast provide for their officers has ten increased by £ 1000. that for capans now beine £4OOO and that for iher officers £3OOO. Alterations to the hours-of-employ-ent clause include one that duty wrs shall not exceed 500 in any free monthly period: the figure was renously 550. In a memorandum to the award the ourt says that it was. in effect, under le guise of industrial arbitration intted to review and rewrite the proisions of a civil aviation safety order Ealing with flight time limitations sued by the Director of Civil Aviaon. The Court did not consider that should review an order issued by anther responsible authority acting in rcordance with legislative direction, articularly as the provisions of the rder seemed to be broadlv and fairly wnparable with similar documents in Iperation in other countries. The parties had asked the Court to ttend the award to cover the whole If New Zealand, but it was not satised that it had jurisdiction to do that, he Court suggested that the parties »ke a joint application to the same nd after the award had. been made.
