AUSTRALIAN’S TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND INVITATION ISSUED BY N.Z.A.A.A.
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 20. The secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association (Mr R. G. H. Geddes) said today that the association had invited the Australian athletes, Miss E. Cuthbert. Miss S. Strickland, M. Lincoln, J. Landy, and H. Hogan, to tour New Zealand this season. He was commenting on the Auckland announcement yesterday that Captain P. F. Sharpley, the former New Zealand representative, had said that Hogan and Misses Cuthbert and Strickland were available to tour the country this summer. JOY CROTTY GOING TO AUSTRALIA (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 20. Joy Crotty. New Zealand’s sprint champion, has taken a secretarial position in Melbourne and intends to stay in Australia for the athletic season, her mother said today. Miss Crotty intends to compete at meetings on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Afterwards she hopes to travel round Australia competing in as many meetings as possible.
BERTH AVAILABLE FOR GORDON PIRIE
(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Dec. 20. The Palmerston North public relations officer (Mr E. G. Beckett) has received word that Gordon Pirie, famed British athlete, has had a booking to New Zealand in the Wanganella made available to him. If he accepts the offer he will arrive in the Dominion on January 7, in time for the first New Zealand summer games, to be held in Palmerston North from January 19 to 26. After being invited to participate in the games, Pirie wrote to Mr Beckett saying he was unable to get air transport from Melbourne until January 25, which would prevent his competing.
