Price Control Lifted From Wide Range Of Goods

Metal dustbins and door handles, concrete and earthenware roofing tiles, forks, picks, grubbers, and cutlery of all descriptions, caustic soda, ammonia, and borax, woollen blankets and diaper squares, artificial limbs, lint, to auze, bandages, wadding, tweezers, and testtubes are among a wide variety of articles exempted from price control as from yesterday, according to a notice in the New Zealand Gazette. One item exempted is refrigerators. Space heaters and space radiators are also now exempt from control. All petroleum products except lubricating oils and greases, petrol, aviation spirit, kerosene, white spirit, diesel and fuel oil, are exempted.Among food items removed from price control are cocoa, and cocoa-type beverages, tinned cream, cornflour, gelatine and glucose, and also lemons. Tariffs of certain specified licensed and unlicensed hotels, private hotels, and boarding houses are removed from control. Detailed items exempted are as follows: Tariffs.— The following licensed hotels: Duke of Marlborough (Russell), The Lodge (Hanmer), Hamilton (Hamilton), Putaruru (Putaruru), Chateau Tongariro (National Park), Wairakei (Wairakei), Te Anau (Te Anau), Grand (Wellington), Waitomo (Waitomo), Lake House (Waikaremoana), Milford (Milford Sound), Hermitage (Mt. Cook), Portage (Kenepuru Sound). The following private hotels: Foster’s (Queenstown), Lomond Cottage (Queenstown). Timber and Building.— Wooden containers and components, core boards, concrete and earthenware roofing tiles, paint-removing preparations. Furniture and Bedding.— lnnerspring or rubber mattresses and mattress bases, innerspring or rubber pillows. Groceries.— Bread (other than standard white), standard brown, wholemeal, Vienna and wheatgerm; food beverages, cocoa powder and beans, cornflour, canned cream, gelatine glucose. glycerine, lemons, dried, whole, or split peas, stock food (except prepared poultry food, wheat, barley, bran and pollard).

Druggists’ Sundries.— Bandages, Cellulose wadding, cottonwool, diabetic outfits, dressings, Gamgee and gauze tissue, medicated and plain gauze, laboratory glassware, medicated and plain lint, adhesive plasters (including corn and bunion plasters or pads),

tweezers, test glasses, test tubes, and stands, wadding. Petroleum Products.— All petroleum products (except lubricating oils and greases, petrol, aviation spirit, kerosene, white spirit, diesel and fuel oil). Clothing.— Men’s and boys’ outerwear of all kinds (excluding school uniforms), maids’ and infants’ dresses, frocks and gowns of wool or containing wool (except school uniforms), women’s professional uniforms, women’s utility and nurses’ smocks in white and plain colours, knitted boleros and cardigans, infants’ overcoats and raincoats, women’s and maids’ utility smocks in plain colours, uniforms of all types (other than school uniforms). Manchester and Fabrics.— Blankets of wool or containing wool, diaper squares, piece goods (including cut lengths as follows: woven or knitted, woollen or containing wool) and woven piece goods of cotton or artificial fibres, including diaper cloth. Men’s Footwear.— Boots with uppers wholly of leather, all footwear with uppers wholly of patent leather, all footwear with uppers wholly of gaberdine, all footwear with uppers wholly of suede leather.

Hardware.—Electrical, kerosene, oil. spirit or hand-operated appliances, space heaters and space radiators, refrigerators, sewing machines, screw and fanlight openers’ joint, sash, seat and sliding door casement fasteners, window and fanlight fitttings, brass pipe fittings, cutlery, all powered hand and edge tools, forks, grubbers and picks, cupboard, cabinet, door fanlight and window catches, metal dustbins, door handles. General.— Artificial limbs, coal, coke and carbonettes. wooden fruit and vegetable containers, nitrogen. Services.—Cool storage charges. Miscellaneous.— Ammonia, borax caustic soda, camphorated oil, real or imitation parchment.
