The margin of profit to the petrol reseller has fallen from 15 per cent, in 1936 to 7.73 per cent, in 1956. according t° A- C. Mr Rhodes made this statement wn en comm enting on a report which g ai oj^ petrol, at its new price of 3s 6d a gallon, showed a rise of 55.56 per cent, over the price in 1939, when it was retailed at 2s 3d a gallon. The report said this was revealed in a survey of commodities and other price trends since 1939. Mr Rhodes said that the price of I petrol had almost doubled since 1936. when it was Is 8d a gallon, while the reseller s margin of profit had almost been halved.
