THE POSTMAN’S WHISTLE
Sir, —It would be ' interesting to know how many requests have been made for the return of the postmen’s whistle. During the last month the times of delivery have ranged between 9.30 a.m. and 3.15 p.m. The Post Office had no hesitation in requesting the public to do their postal business early to avoid the Christmas congestion, but when requests are made for a warning of the letter-carrier’s approach, absolutely no heed is taken. To say the least, this is grossly unfair. Four or five visits to the gate for elderly people during recent weather is no joke.—Yours, etc., FAIRPLAY. December 20, 1956.
