(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17. A smooth-working pair of thieves robbed a New York diamond merchant of about £134,000 worth of cut stones last night. The thieves kidnapped the merchant, Mr David Gurfein, moments after his plane touched down, and took 119 parcels of cut diamonds and emeralds from a brief case he was carrying. Police throughout the United States have been asked to check on the movements of known gem thieves.
