Olympic Games Film Criticised

(N.Z Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 18. Two London newspapers today were critical of the official Olympic Games film. A “Daily Telegraph” columnist said: “After the rows that have been going on over the Olympic Games film, it '4 disappointing. There is no rowing in it. no yachting, and very little boxing. The swimming concentrated on the women’s events, and was accompanied by a most inane and self, conscious commentary by Nancy Spain. Much of the athletics were well done, but the effect was patchy.” The “Daily Herald” said whatever the reason, the film failed to give a picture of Britain’s best year in memory.

“Credit goes to the producers for having got this hour-long film out so promptly, but maybe they would have done better to have taken more time in selection and editing. They seem to have been undecided whether to produce a documentary or graphic newsreel, and have ended up with neither. The sequences dodge about with no relation to the events, commentaries range from the unctuous to the ridiculous, and misplaced humour interspersed by a breathless gabble from Nancy Spain on the womenj events.”
