PROPOSALS FOR CYPRUS
Makarios May See British Plans
a uu- LONDON. December 17. Archbishop Makarios is likely to be shown the new British Government proposals for Cyprus. A British Colonial Office spokesman said: “It seems unlikely that the Government would want to keep suph an important document from the Archbishop.” He was referring to the constitutional proposals of Lord Radcliffe, a jurist who visited “'yprus earlier this year to work out a plan for constitutional reform. The British Cabinet will tomorrow consider a detailed report from the Colonial Secretary (Mr Alan LennoxBoyd), who has discussed the proposals in Athens and Istanbul with the Greek and Turkish Governments. Officials say that the showing of the document to the exiled Archbishop would not imply that the British Government is entering into negotiation with him over the problem. He is still held in the Seychelles Islands. Three-Day Week For Ford Workers (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. Dec. 17. Workers at the Ford Motor Company, at Dagenham, Essex, and in subsidiary plants, will go on a three-day week from December 31, to avoid mass dismissals caused by a slump in sales, the company announced today.
