COLOMBO PLAN CONFERENCE

PLENARY SESSION TODAY (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 22. Officials attending the preliminary meetings of the Colombo Plan conference today continued their committee and working group deliberations, and tomorrow will resume their plenary session and review the progress already made in the drafting and presentation of reports and other material in readiness.for the Ministerial Consultative Committee meeting, which will open on December 4. The first group of the Ministers who will attend the Consultative Committee meeting is expected to arrive in New Zealand the week-end after next. . , Today a few officials attended a screening at the National Publicity Unit’s Mirimar studios of a composite film which is to have its first public showing in Wellington tomorrow, based mainly on aspects of the capital and technical assistance given to South and South-east Asian countries by Canada. Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Since they have been in Wellington the officials and those comprising the preliminary working group have participated in a varied programme of entertainments which has included city and suburban tours, film screenings. attendance at a National Orchestra concert, and a visit to the Wallaceville Research Station. The visitors have also been guests of the Overseas League and of the international service committee of the Wellington Rotary Club. . During this week-end some officials will be hard at work preparing reports and other material, but most will travel to Featherston to visit a dairy factory and a farm. Next week officials will visit the first Wellington wool sale, inspect the Colombo Plan hostel, which was opened recently, attend a social evening as guests of the United Nations Association, visit Massey Agricultural College and the grasslands research station at Palmerston North, inspect the modern Wellington South Intermediate School, and be entertained at a special concert by the Ngati Poneke Maori concert party.
