EXTRA EVENT AT TROTS

Nine-Race Programmes Suggested

The possibility of clubs running ninerace programmes instead of the present eight was being investigated by the New Zealand Trotting Conference, said the president (Mr H. W. Drewery) in reply to a question at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Trotting Owners' and Breeders’ Association last night. Mr Drewery had been asked if it would be possible to run nine ' races a day to compensate for trotting races deleted in recent year? from galloping programmes. The New Zealand Owners' and Breeders’ Association had investigated the suggestion some time ago, but it would require a change in an Act of Parliament to make it possible. The conference was to make representations to the Government on the subject, said Mr Drewery.

Clubs could easily run nine races a day with short intervals between events, he added.

Officers elected at the meeting were:— patron, Mr A. L. Matson: president, Mr Drewery; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Murphy, W. L. Parkinson, D. Rodgers, F. E. Sutton, A. H. Todd: committee, Messrs V.
