Kuts Favoured In 10,000 Metres

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 12.10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 2.2 The 10,000 metres race tomorrow will be fought out by Russia’s Vladimir Kuts and Britain’s Gordon Pirie, according to the Russians. Russia’s chief athletic coach, Mr Leonard Khomenkov, said that Kuts was in exceptionally good form. He had been training hard and had even missed today’s opening march to trot about the village. Kuts had not been bothered at all by his recent motor accident, he said. Mr Khomenkov said he had studied Pirie’s form because he and Kuts had often trained together. He thought Pirie had a clean style and would be Kuts’s greatest rival. Asked about Dave Stephens’s chances in the event, Mr Khomenkov smiled and shook his head.
