FAILED TO ATTEND PARADES

FINE OF £55 ON THREE CHARGES (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, November 20. A compulsory Naval reservist was fined £55 by Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court for failing to attend three military parades for training, at Dunedin Naval Headquarters. He had two previous convictions for the same offence. He was John Haworth, aged 21, a driver, who failed to attend at parades on September 10 and September 19. and October 3. The naval officer-in-charge at Dunedin (Lieutenant-Commander L. E. Hodge) said that Haworth realised his responsibilities, but seemed to take a fine “in his stride” as punishment for non-attendance. When he did attend parades he was a good trainee.
