RESUSCITATION INSTRUCTION
SOCIETY’S COURSE WELL ATTENDED Pupils ranging from a boy of nine (who was not really entitled to attend but went with hjs mother and took part in the evening’s activities) to men and women more than 60 years old attended the Canterbury branch of the Royal Life Saving Society’s lecture in the Latimer Hall on the Holger-Neilson method of resuscitation. , . ~ There were in all 108 pupils of all sizes and shapes, and 14 instructors in what was the first of five weekly lectures. The pupils came from many places and callings, and there were two classes, the first from 7.30 p.m. for an hour, and the second starting at 8.30 p.m: One of the keenest pupils was a man with an arm in plaster. His activities were somewhat limited, but he made a useful start and intends to carry on with the course. There were demonstrations by Mrs L. Piper, the branch’s chief examiner, and another examiner, Mr P. Mummery, spoke on the value of the system and on the after-care of patients. Next week when the second lessons are given, a Danish film on the system will be screened. The secretary of the branch (Miss D. Brown, expressed the pleasure of the organisers at the large attendance and at the enthusiasm of the pupils. The course, she said, was a major effort in the present prevent-drowning campaign.
Miss Brown said that there was still room for more pupils for the second classes of the evening, and those who wished to join that class when the second lesson was given on Thursday evening next week would not be too late to gain full benefit from the tuition.
