EMPIRE RHEUMATISM COUNCIL
WORK OF NEW ZEALAND BRANCH (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Nov. 18.* Tentative plans for expansion of the scope of the New Zealand branch of the Empire Rheumatism Council were discussed at the annual general meeting of the branch held at the Palmerston North Public Hospital. The meeting took place during a conference attended by doctors from all parts of the Dominion. Dr. J. M. Tweed, of Wellington, honorary secretary of the branch, said that the New Zealand branch confined its membership and activities to the medical profession, conferences being held purely to enable doctors to keep in toich with the latest developments associated with the disease. It was hoped, he said, that the New Zealand branch would eventually have open membership and assOme the function of promoting research and raising funds for the provision of treatment facilities, ih addition to its present role of disseminating knowledge within the medical profession. Its new role, he said, would become similar to that of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society, but plans for the expansion were only at a very tentative stage at present.
