TRADES COUNCIL URGES BREACH
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. November 16.
Deploring the Russian attack on Hungary, the Auckland Trades Council will appeal to the Prime Minister (Mr Holland), the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) and the national executive of the New Zealand Federation of Labour to secure a breach of diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union.
The council has passed a resolution supporting the federation’s national executive in its endeavours to alleviate the suffering of workers and their families in Hungary. “The Russian attack against the defenceless men. women, and children of Hungary makes a mockery of the Soviet’s claim to peaceful co-exist-ence,” said the resolution, “and must serve to warn the free world of the brutal tactics communism is prepared to use to subvert free-thinking people.” A donation of £lOO will be made by the council for the relief of suffering in Hungary.
