More Bowlers In N.Z.

A few years ago bowling ranked second equal with golf membership only to Rugby, but if its growth in recent years is any criterion, it ap-

pears that within the next 10 to 15 years the bowling membership in this country may surpass all other sports. Three or four years ago there were about 40,000 bowlers affiliated to the New Zealand Bowling Association, but according to the latest issue of “The New Zealand Bowler,” membership has grown now to 43,000. As well, there are 12,750 women bowlers in the country and 36,000 take part in indoor bowls under the control of the New Zealand Federation of Indoor Bowls. Quite a large proportion of those playing indoor bowls are not affiliated members of the bowling association.
