Australian-Built Locomotives The first of 10 Australian-built diesel-electric locomotives would arrive in New Zealand on January 1. Mr R. F. Black, the Railways Department’s chief mechanical engineer, said on board the Monowai at Auckland yesterday. At the contractors’ workshops in Sydney, Mr Black saw two of the locomotives being built. “Everything is advancing nicely,” he said. The materials used were mainly Australian, but some of the parts were American.—(P.A.)
