JESSE OWENS IN MELBOURNE

Jesse Owens, the only man ever to have won four Gold Medals at an Olympic Games, arrived in Melbourne last night to attend the 1956 Games as a personal representative of President Eisenhower. Owens, who won. his medals at the 1936 Berlin Games, arrived with the American basketball, hockey, and women's track and field teams. Aged 43, he is co-ordinator of recreational activities for Illinois. After the Games he will visit Sydney and New Zealand to conduct a series of track clinics.
Swiss Newspaper Boycott.—Two of the smaller Swiss newspapers, the “Neues Winterthurer Tagblatt” and the “Neue Zuercher Nachrichten,” announced today that they will publish nothing about the Melbourne Olympics. The Swiss Olympic Committtee. having decided to withdraw its team from the Games, later reversed the decision, and finally found that it could not go because there was no suitable aircraft.—Zurich, November 15.
