OBITUARY MR GEORGE PORTEOUS

Mr George Porteous. who died at his home. Oxford street, Lyttelton, on Sunday, was born in Lyttelton 83 years ago. He was on the staff of the Lyttelton Harbour Board for 45 years, first in the cool store and then for many years as head storeman in No. 5 shed. In his young days. Mr Porteous was bugler in the Lyttelton Naval Volunteers and was for many years in the Lyttelton Marine Band. He was a foundation member of the Lyttelton Young Men’s Club, and was a life member of the Christchurch Scottish Society. He was a member of the Canterbury Kilwinning Masonic Lodge and of the Royal Albert Chapter. Mr Porteous is survived by his wife and by three daughters. Miss Emily Porteous. Lvttelton. Mrs Myrtle Raymond (Ashburton), and Mrs Evelyn Muxlow (Lyttelton), and by a son. Mr Cyril Porteous (Christchurch).
