BRAKES ON TANKER CATCH FIRE

When the rear brakes on a 2000Sallon petrol tanker caught fire in oventry street yesterday afternoon it was only the lack of fumes and leaks in the tank which prevented an explosion. A tyre and tube on one of the rear wheels were destroyed. According to officers of the Fire Brigade last evening, it was fortunate there were no petrol fumes about when the fire broke out. Three units from the Central Fire Station were rushed to the tanker, and the fire was quickly extinguished. A rubbish fire on the property of J. J. Melhuish and Company, 378 Wilsons road, was extinguished by two units from the Central station at 7.30 p.m. A section of a dividing fence was damaged.
