Erich Boitze, the first German Minister to New Zealand, has reached the age of retirement, and is about to leave the diplomatic service. Dr. Boitze will leave Wellington for Europe on October 31. The secretary of the legation (Dr. H. J. Dietrich) has become charge d’affaires of the legation. A new Minister has not yet been appointed.—(P.A.)
Mr H. M. Searle, of Culverden. has been appointed a Coroner. Mr Searle, who is a Justice of the Peace, is clerk to the Amuri County Council.
Mr T. H. Harris has been appointed head of the English, department of the Correspondence School, Wellington. Mr Harns has been on the staff of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School for 16 years.
Mr R. M. Heke, a building overseer of the Ministry of Works in Christchurch, has been chosen to supervise the erection of huts for the New Zealand Antarctic party next year. Mr Heke, who is 28 years old, has been in Wellington recently erecting some of the huts, and then dismantling them for packing for the Antarctic. Mr R. Brooks, manager of the Hermitage. Mount Cook, has been appointed manager of Eichardt’s Hotel. Queenstown, which was bought recently by the Tourist Hotel Corporation. His successor is Mr D. Coe, who was recently assistant manager of the Hotel Wairakei.
