EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN

TOWNSWOMEN DENY REPORT

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 2.

An executive member of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds said in Wellington that the federation at its annual meeting last week in Hastings did not vote against supporting a proposal for equal pay for men and women for equal work, as had been reported. She said that no vote was taken on the equal pay issue. Opinions were freely expressed for and against the principle, and the view was expressed that satisfactory status for women would eventually be achieved through the competent authorities such as the Arbitration court, .Public Service Commission and trade unions.

But the federation, as a strictly nonpolitical body, did not vote on the proposal, she said.
